1. Will the Original work with any version of iPhone?
YES! But be sure to pick out the correct size for your iPhone. We have a version for iPhone SE, 5S, 5, 4S, 4 and 3G, a version for iPhone 6 / 6S and a version for iPhone 6 Plus / 6S Plus.
2. Will the Original work with any other brand of smart phone?
No, the Original was designed specifically for the Apple iPhone.
3. What versions of the iPhone is the Pivot compatible with?
The Pivot works with the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, SE, 6, 6 Plus 6S and 6S Plus. It is not designed to work with versions of iPhone that came before the iPhone 4.
4. Will the Pivot work with any other brand of smart phone?
YES, but not all! Inquire with your specific model.
5. What kind of finish is used on my Koostik product?
Every Koostik is dipped in Teak Oil, allowed to dry overnight, then recoated with a Lemon Oil and Beeswax mixture which is hand rubbed and buffed.
6. What can I expect in terms of amplification?
The Original increases typical volume output by 10 to 20 decibels, depending on the frequency of sounds. This means an actual audible volume increase of 2 to 4 times! The volume increase on the Pivot is just slightly less than the Original, but still very significant.
7. Will I be able to leave the case on my iPhone while I use it in my Koostik?
All of our products are designed for use with your Apple devices without cases. However, the Original (for iPhone 5S and older) and Pivot will allow for use with cases up to and including an overall dimension of 2 9/16" wide by 1/2" deep. This works with many of the smaller form fitting cases available for iPhone. The Original for iPhone 6 / 6S and 6 Plus / 6S Plus has also been optimized for use with the Apple leather or silicone cases.
8. Are they really handmade in America?
Absolutely 100%! We take a great deal of pride in the craftsmanship we put into every piece we ship.
9. I see that you do laser engraving. Can I order just one Koostik with a custom laser graphic?
No. The minimum order quantity for custom laser engraving is 5 pieces. If you have a small business (or giant!) consider giving custom engraved Koostik products to your employees or customers! Contact Mike Simon for more information.
10. Do you ship internationally?
Yes indeed! We currently have our products in over 45 countries. Please note that some countries will require you to pay duties and/or taxes in order to receive the shipment. This is outside of our control unfortunately and we are not given any information on what kind of fees to expect when shipping your order. If you would like to learn more, we recommend looking into your country's import fees when receiving items purchased from the USA.
11. I love the whole concept of a green, energy free amplifier; and the designs and craftsmanship are awesome. Will the Koostik be the only sound system I need?
If all you “need” is basic acoustic amplification, yes. However, Koostik is not intended to be a replacement for your home audio equipment. It is a unique and lovely piece of American craftsmanship to compliment your iPhone, which also happens to do a pretty impressive job of acoustic amplification!
12. What does "passive amplification" mean?
As the name implies, there is no additional power input involved in passive amplification. All of our products currently are designed as passive amplifiers. They rely solely on the output of the external speaker of your Apple device. Sound from that speaker is acoustically amplified by the design of our products and the result is an increase in volume output free of any additional power requirement. We like to think of our products as the truly green alternative to powered speaker systems.
13. Do you offer bulk discounts?
We want you to be completely satisfied with your Koostik purchase. We work hard to carefully design and hand craft each product we make and to ensure that every piece we ship meets our very high standards. Having said that, if you are not satisfied, you may return any item you've purchased from us within 5 business days of receipt of the product. Please notify us by email that you are returning the item so that we will be looking for it. On receiving the item back in new and re-sellable condition, we will issue a full credit back for the purchase price of the item. If you wish to return your order over 5 business days of receipt of the product there will be a 30% restocking fee. We are not able to refund shipping costs. Returns are not accepted for all custom orders. This includes laser engraved and custom fit products. For international orders, the 30% restocking fee is applied to all returns. This is because we subsidize shipping costs for our international customers so we can provide our hand made products to our international friends at an affordable price. We are also not able to refund the shipping costs for international returns.
