I was fascinated by Maya Lin's artwork before I even knew it. When I was a kid my family would take frequent trips to Washington DC to visit relatives, and my favorite memorial to visit was the Vietnam Memorial, which she designed in 1981. There was just something so powerful about the sea of names all etched in stone. In college I discovered her artwork, and again was fascinated with her material choices and geological references. Her use of wood I find especially interesting. Here at Koostik, we're working with wood every day and constantly thinking of new ways to manipulate it into interesting products. I really enjoy finding artists who do the same. For me, finding new and interesting uses for materials, especially readily available ones, is really exciting! Hope you enjoy the images!
